What is Taylor's Wave?
Taylor's Wave, also called the Woodfin Wave, is a purpose-built standing wave on the French Broad River just north of Asheville. A ledge of rock and concrete shapes the river's natural flow into a wave that kayakers and river surfers can ride in place.
The wave is free to use and changes with the river level. You can come to paddle or surf, or stay on shore and watch.

Use current driving directions and follow posted signs for parking and river access. Keep unloading areas, driveways, and emergency routes clear. For a one-way river trip, arrange your take-out and ride back before launching.

The Town describes the wave as suited to intermediate and advanced paddlers and surfers. Its shape and difficulty change with river flow. Wear a properly fitted life jacket and helmet, bring equipment suited to whitewater, and choose conditions within your skills.
A bypass channel provides an alternative to the wave. Scout your route and follow posted guidance before entering the river.
For spectators
You don't need a boat to enjoy a visit. Watch from open public areas on shore, keep river-access routes clear for paddlers, and stay behind any barriers. Bring drinking water and check available amenities before settling in.
